TS 250/1 clutch problem

Postby AlanJ » Sun Jul 17, 2016 4:58 pm

Hi All, Right, I have just about finished the refurb on my 1977 TS 250/1 and the only major thing to do are, as I have a seized clutch I intend to change the plates and at this time replace the main seals with new double lip seals. Now we have the problem. I cannot unscrew the tube that takes the clutch cable to the engine. I have so far heated the area and applied WD40 but not being able to put a ring spanner on you can only use an open ended it tends to squash the tube, mind you I was using an extension tube over a meter long. So, my next question is can you take the clutch cover off with the cable and tube in situe. Incidently, when I took the rev counter cover off the 3 screws were not on the adjuster plate. Strange?
Thanks for your help take care Alan.

Hi all, Had another go at unscrewing the tube this morning and using a big pipe steelson with a meter ext. and the spanner at the same time, Bingo!!! So, that part of the problem sorted. Mind you I didn't do the tube any favours looks in a real sorry state, have to get a new one about a tenner sorry, about 13 dollars. Anyway I still have to get the cover off
Take care all Alan.

Hi all, I am sorry I shouted too soon, after unscrewing the 22mm Tacko drive the cover is now off, well at least it will be when I move the footrest out of the way. So, with a bit of luck I can now sort the clutch, great I have got to say though seeing the clutch mech. for the first time it looks bloody good for 1977 and I know it has often been said the MZ TS ond other mods are very under rated to say the least. Anyway enough of my ramblings.
Take care all Alan.

Hi All, On the first message I mentioned the three screws missing from the adjuster plate, I feel such an idiot, they are of course the three fixing screws for the rev counter drive housing. Anyway, clutch is all ok recovered and oiled up I am about ready to fire up but now the only thing stopping me is the paint on the tank has reacted to the finish lacquer, it's now got about 8 cracks on the surface radiating from the filler hole so I must sort that out before I add the fuel. Mind you the urge to say sod it and fire it up is very high though. They say patience is a virtue but there are times when that's a load of old cods wallop.
Take care all Alan.
