cutting out

Postby rcbikeracer » Wed Jul 13, 2016 4:54 am

Hi folks, I have a 96 Skorpion which cuts out once nearly every ride out. It does this at a random moment in the middle of a 40 to 50 mile trip over various roads. It will cut out when slowing for a junction or roundabout. But it only happens the once, sometimes it doesn't cut out. It will restart straight away on the button. So I have my duct tape, WD40 and a hammer, where should I be looking.

Sidestand switch - see some recent posts in the 660 section.

Is it at a specific RPM?

Cheers I will check the side stand switch. It cuts out at lower revs typically going from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st, At all other times it has a good strong tickover and runs well :?

Check spade lugs on coil
And try a testride with a bungy cord on the side stand its switch may need adjusted

And bumping the kill switch can cause glitches

Some of the bikes need some tlc there allmost as old as the riders

My brother's Aprilia Pegaso 650 Cube did that when temps were below 60F. Once I made the idle mixture slightly richer, it stopped doing it. Went from 2.5 turns out on the mixture screws to 4 turns out.

Hi folks, Checked the side stand switch, It does not do anything, thinking It may have been bypassed somewhere in the wiring loom. Weather permitting the tank will be off tomorrow and wiring connections will be prodded and poked and checked with my trusty old meter.
Today warm and sunny did 54 miles to the seaside, after 20 miles it died changing from 2nd to 3rd, then 5 miles later died going from 3rd to 2nd. Both times started straight away on the button. All other electricky things, lights, indicators working as normal.
I shall post my findings, if indeed findings are found

defective neutral light switch making false signals when shifting or a bad diode ????
all those diodes make it all work
but i call them A BAD, GOOD IDEA because there so hard to trouble shoot a problem
if one is going bad
inspect the wire from the neutral switch for proper hook up and intermittent shorting

So this week, tank off, checked every spade and connector I could see, a little minor corrosion, zapped them with a little WD40. I am just back from a 25 mile run and it seems fine. Fingers crossed as I'm doing the Helmsley TT next week. So thanks for the ideas and suggestion.
