Oil pump/ pre mix.

Postby milly » Sun Feb 28, 2016 6:42 pm

Hi,
my etz 300 has an oil pump couple of question I hope you can help me with.

On this model does the pump feed oil direct to the mains or is it splash feed?

If splash feed is there any problems converting to premix and removing oil pump?

I ask as I have had pumps or cables go on my 2 strokes before in my youth and cause seizures, or is the system quite reliable bearing in mind its well over 25 yrs old.

Many thanks in advance
Milly

i had a yamaha with the auto lube it was very reliable
but the rule #1 is check it out for proper adjustment and do remember to add OIL to the tank

The pumps are reliable, I have no problems with my ETZ125.

Keep the cable 'tween twist grip and oil pump lubed, and check for frayed strands regularly. Replace the pipe between the oil tank and pump if it goes hard, and every few years empty and wash out the oil tank. The pump itself is very reliable and meters well

I've converted pumped ETZs to premix in the past.

I wouldn't bother again.

I myself don't use the pump. The pump is very reliable. Though I did put a loop pipe on the pump so that it wasn't running dry (just continually pumping the same ounce foreeeeeeever) :)

If you do go pre-mix, remember your mixtures, and remember to bring oil with you. I buy the cheapest 2t oil in big 20l barrels making the 500ml of oil per tank I think 70p extra. (Haven't worked out the savings in a long time, might be cheaper).

I only fill up the bike when I get to reserve, and I chuck the lot (all of a 500ml bottle that I re-fill) into the tank. Never had issues with fouling especially now that I use an iridium plug (it didn't make any difference to power of course), but for me I think it's just a bit of peace of mind and keeping it simple.
