Tach doesn't work, sort of.

Postby DrGonzo » Sun Feb 14, 2016 10:47 am

My tachometer doesn't work on my Silver Star. It tries to work. The needle seems to be stuck below/behind the needle rest post. When the bike is not running the needle is a couple of mm below the post and when I start the bike it moves against it and remains there. Has anyone else experienced this? I am going to check all the electrical connections today. Any ideas on a remedy will be appreciated.

Well, i took matters into my own hands. I was ably to pry the retaining ring out enough to remove it from the top of the tach, get inside and re-position the needle and bam, a working tach!

Hello,
I need to open the tacho on my Silver Star to clean the misting off the inside (it sat for 8 years outdoors under a cover before I persuaded the owner to part with it). How exactly did you open your tacho?

Also, the needle sits resolutely on 3500rpm, except when revved really hard at which point it drops! Is this likely to be a problem with the unreliable brown plastic connector in the battery compartment?

Thanks,

Doug
