MZ TS 250/1 Ignition switch

Postby AlanJ » Wed Jan 27, 2016 1:14 pm

Hi all,
I am a new member and I am doing a referb on a MZ TS 250/1 1977. I am generally ok with all the info and parts using Germany Hungary Miami and Ebay, so, not too much of a problem there. The info I can't find is the positions on the ignition switch, As far as I can see there are, if you sit on the bike facing forward, 6 positions and from right to left, No1 is fixed 2 and 3 you can remove key, No4 is fore and aft fixed and so is 5 and 6 fixed. If someone can tell me the use of these it would be great please. Incidently I am upgrading the tyres to Metzeler ME77 3.00-18 front and 110/90-16 rear, would be interested to hear what the thoughts are on these I must mention that the bike has not been on the road since 1988 so looking forward to getting her going. Hoping someone can help all the best Alan.

Hi, Thanks for looking those that have, just to mention, I have found the answer to my ing. switch query. Thanks to THEREALCHE in March 2012. Took some finding though, it was inside a post. Anyway from right to left 1 Emergency 2 Parking with lights key removable 3 Off key removable 4 Ignition on lights off 5 ignition on lights on 6 ignition on h/lights on I hope that's right but it seems ok. Anyway any thoughts on the Metzeler ME77 would be interesting. Take care Alan.

I'd be wary of changing the tyres to different sizes.

Most of us have tried going up a size at some point, only to go back to the original sizes. They really do handle best on those, but if you're looking for a matched pair then you've only a choice of Mitas, Michelin or Heidenau. I've used ME77s on non MZs and they're alright, and the ME22 works well on the front of an MZ in 2.75x18 standard size.

Mitas get my vote nowadays on the bikes with a 16 inch rear, they grip and wear like a far more expensive tyre. The Michelins and Heidenaus grip as well, but wear faster on the rear. On the front, I've found the Heidenaus crack between the tread before they wear out, and the Michelins go a funny shape making tbe wheel patter in corners. That was an M45, but I'm going to try a City Pro next time to see if they stay round.

Hi arry,
Thanks for the info, sadly I sat pondering about the tyres for quite some time before I settled on the ME77's. I was worried about the increase in the sizes, not so much the front as it's only 1/4in bigger but the rear is up 8/10ths and of course there is volume involved. Anyway too late now and if I find it's a problem I will certainly post the info. Incidently Dave sent me some info about winter tyres, thanks for that Dave, the reason I am posting this thanks is at this moment in time I can't send mail direct from my system, something to do with port 25.
Thanks for your thoughts Take care Alan
