mz 125 etz k reg

hi I have a mz 125 etz on a k reg having problems getting it ticking over right and rev it up and it drops down then revs like hell and smokes a lot to . been told I have a air leak between the manifold and carb or airbox filter checked these and tightened all bolts and checked seals cant seen what the problem is .please can some help point me in the right direction .regards minikev

To check for a leak, spray wd40 around the joints to see if that makes any difference to the tick over whilst the engine is running. This makes it easier to pinpoint a leak.
Your only searching for a leak between the carb body and the cylinder. A leak between the carb and filter would not make such a dramatic change in idle speeds.

Have you tried cleaning the carburettor, and checking the settings are as they're meant to be in the manual? Try a new plug too if you haven't already.

Does the bike have the "red box" electronic ignition. They can be a problem generally on older bikes.

thanks for the info will try this Thursday as next day off the brass pin in the carb is set on the highest ring so makes the pin sit as low in the pot as possible is this right cos I have only owned the bike a week last owner been tinkering with it I think hence why I am havin trouble with it

Well got my mz 125 etz ticking over and revving nice but smokes like he'll and on riding gets choked up any ideas please

What was the problem?

As far as your smoking / bogging down problem, it's worth checking that the choke cable has a little free play when the choke is off, and that the bung on the end of the choke plunger isn't damaged or missing. That's a fairly common problem.
