Does anyone have any views as to which is the best carb for Saxon Tour 301

I've got the BVF fitted to my current 301, and have had the Bing fitted to a previous 301.

I've never been able to get a BVF to idle without having to put up with surging on the overrun, something I could eventually manage to achieve with the Bing fitted. However, even with without a tickover, I prefer how the bike rides with the BVF. Top speed is the same, it just feels smoother and pulls a bit better low down. I get slightly better MPG too.

It's not exactly the same, but I've just come back from a tour with a friend who was on his TS250/1 fitted with a Mikuni. The Mikuni gave him good mid range (easily able to keep up with my 301). Fuel consumption was worse though.

Cheers for that arry. The reason I'm asking is that after a slow hill climb in first gear for about 50 metres, then going into neutral the engine starts to increase its revs. As though it's knocking.I have just had the barrel changed from 251 to 301 so it can't be carbon deposits.
