brake light help!!!

Postby suzukix7 » Tue Jul 29, 2014 1:01 pm

Hi guys,

I have a 1979 TS150 that has been modded in to a café racer.
I am trying to keep as much standard as possible but the rear end mudguard has gone for good and been replaced with a single seat conversion.
I want to use a much smaller rear light/brake light to match the less bulky rear end. I am keeping the original brake light switch inside the hub but here lies the problem.
I am hopeless with electrics!!! However my best mate is an electrical engineer and we can't get the brake light to work as the new lights are designed for bikes that already have a common earth on the bike.
Are there any other MZ rear lights that have 4 way connections that I could use at all??

i have found taillamps wired 2 way or more

common is tail lamp is hot with key in second position /brake lamp switch is hot with key off/not too many times
switch on in first position
brake lamp hot all the time brake lamp switch grounds lamp..

you may have to do a mod job on the tail lamp

Yes that's the best thing- mod the lamp and switch. As I recall your tail light takes two separate bulbs for stop and tail (a very good idea in my opinion) so it's easy to mod the wiring. But the standard hub mounted brake light switch is just awful. I have always just disconnected these and fitted a standard universal pull switch like you used to get at any bike shop. I never could tolerate that bizarre MZ brake light contraption. Feck knows why an otherwise sensible bike opted for such a weird switch.
