Hi Dave. I'm new to this forum. I own a '94 500 Country that uses the same air filter. I've been trying to find a suitable replacement for two years with no luck. Someone on a Euro forum reported that a Briggs & Stratton 33-2238 fits, but I can't confirm that.

If all else fails, MZ in Daytona has a huge stock of parts for the Rotax-engined bikes that they picked up when they took the brand from Jawa. Unfortunately, they won't sell direct to end user anymore, but a dealer can get it for you. About the only thing they don't have is the brake rotor (all of their stock was warped), but I talked EBC into reproducing that part last year.

Well, let me know when you've actually tried it. It'll be nice to have alternatives when the NOS goes away. Until then, I believe I'll stick with OEM parts.

update for this series of posts

bmw chopper filter fits its the model in the James Bond movie

take a peanut can or fritos scoops can made of paper with a metal bottom

you have the correct one if it measures 100mm across
cut lid from can and place in a lathe 3 jaw chuck to center it
cut an 88mm hole in its center..
can lip edge fits over filter
oem metal adapter drops in 88mm hole and holds filter in place
works on saxon tour should work on most mz bikes that use the a620 filter
pictures some where on mz riders

The Rotax frame is adapted from the ETZ 2-stroke. It is highly likely that they use the same filter. This is also the filter that is used on the TS 250. A Morris Minor filter does fit though it would almost certainly be easier to locate an MZ one.

I once found a K&N filter for a 1963 Chevvy (as I recall). It was a tight squeeze to get it into the TS airbox, this would not be a problem with the ETZ airbox. The holes in the K&N/Chevvy filter are too big. I cut two rings from sheet aluminium (you can't get decent peanut-tins in this sad colony).

I can find the K&N part no. but you'd eat fewer peanuts and have more time to ride your bike if you used standard parts.

Happy zedding!

thanks for the input
you have to make it only once

wife eats the peanuts
i eat cashews and fritos

several items come in these cans here in the USA
cashews ,peanuts , fritos chips and Crisco 1lb can of shortening
to name a few
here the mz parts are very rare
as are riders that know what an MZ is...

the real story is
i had a can of fritos scoops one day at the work bench
where a bmw filter was laying to go in a friends bike
and set the can down on it by accident
later i remembered it fit when i need to make the adapter
and some times i even order them for 2 or 3 guys
with the bmw chopper bike
had one on hand and it works
now i just need to get the saxon tour out and go ride

K&N BM-1298 filter with brass centre hole cover. Made from an old brass candle holder. Works well.
