I have a 686 with 9.9 compression. But I plan to run the stock carbs rejetted with 175 mains etc and the original airbox etc. You think it would starve ?

Jetting on the stock carbs should be more like 130 and 160.

The black one with stock bore (I think) with a D&D pipe and stock airbox and filter is using 145 and 175 mains and working very well.
It also has 42.5 mikuni pilot but I believe needles are not shimmed up.

Running well is a relative term. Check around the archives and I think you will find that you are running rich. Have you hooked up an exhaust gas analyzer to it? My modified engine was what the dyno operator called "turbo rich" when I had the 175 on the CV carb. It still put out 55hp, but that jumped up to 59hp once the jetting got dialed in. Just keep that in mind.

So....do you want your old, stock carbs? I'm looking for a stock pair to rebuild and maybe bore out a little as a long term project. I'd prefer to have a spare set to ruin, rather than mess with my perfectly functional stock ones.

I don't know what they are worth but will probably just hold onto them unless I hear a number in the $300 range. Keep in mind I did some re-plumbing on the fuel supply for the CV jet so they aren't fully stock. I also installed that carb kit for improved throttle response. They will come with the rubber airbox intakes and pod filters too.

There was a set on fleabay a couple of weeks ago. They appeared to be in excellent condition, included some foam filters, and did not get even one bid at $60. The auction has ended, but you might send a PM to cody-b and ask if he still wants to sell them.

If not, I have a couple of spares. One set is off of the Sport parts bike, those I would sell for $75. The bike started with them on, but they are filthy and I have not opened them up to inspect them.

Spare jets are here and I've talked to my suspension guy about building me a shock in the near future. So aside from the outrageously expensive wheels I want to get for this project, and the Brembo calipers, all of my performance related modifications will be complete by end of summer. Man I wished I weighed half of what I do so I could feel the true potential of my little beast.

You're talking to the guy that (almost 2 years ago) detonated his way out of a high compression 102mm piston.
I'd be OK with it being super rich, I dont want to lost a piston or worse again. Being already drilled, I guess I have to find a jet of the same type but much smaller size and drill it to 1.7 mm or 1.65 mm.

Jets R Us sells jets that will fit. You just have to take yours out, measure it's dimensions, count the threads and then order the sizes you want. I have some of their jets in my stock carb but I couldn't tell you exactly which brand and type.

A place in Oregon, called PJ Motorsports has them. They're Keihin jets, part# 1001-806 9mm x 8mm. They had them to me in 2 or 3 days in So. Cal. I've been trying to sort the jetting on an 02 Traveller. They will sell you one, Only other place I found, min. of 6 in each size.

My local dealer will let me raid their used parts bin. I've bailed them out on both expertise and parts enough number of times to well walk in there and swipe it. I've just got the stock one drilled to 175 and its working fine. Its drilled with a #39 bit I think ... its rich but works OK.
I have a D&D pipe and the stock type filter, I think its about the right jetting, it may be a bit rich, but I will sort it in time. The 102mm bore would very well be OK I think with 175 and 145.

Well things didn't go as planned this past year financially, but I should be on the right track by end of year and plan on getting back to work finishing up the bike. Found some Brembo wheels but still negotiating. The Marchesini billet wheels sure would be nice, but if I can get the same performance for half the money, looks aren't that important. Freshly blasted Brembo's with a coat of clear will be just fine, and save me over 13lbs of rotating mass. Then it's just the shock and calipers before the final cosmetics. I know I've been leading y'all on but there should be a lot of progress going on by the start of the new year. Schwing!!!
