What Oil

Postby MichaelTorre » Mon Feb 17, 2014 9:43 pm

I am fixing to fill my 4speed TS250 transmission. Made in 1974.
The East German manual specifies something I don't
recognize.
I am in the States so I have to have a U.S. specific product.
Help?
Thanks,
M

Year doesn't matter, all the two strokes use a straight EP80 oil in the 'box.

TS250 uses 900ml of the stuff.

Don't forget, GL3/4. Do not put the more common GL5 varient in. This will swell the cork clutch plates. No damage short term however, though the clutch will be completely fused if left a few hours, and can make pulling away for the first time difficult. And in my case, it pulled the chain, and thus rear axle to the front of the swingarm adjustment area, due to the adjuster going through the back of the swingarm into said adjustment gap.

It will state clearly on the front, or if you read the back, the specification it is. EP is unfortunately much more common than SAE, due to it being usable in both conditions. As long as the weight is around about 80 it'll be fine. But remember, GL3/4 only, NOT GL5. Semi Synthetic is also good to use.

I am in west central Missouri.
Miles and miles and miles of corn or soy..........cool.....but,
My supply house is going to be a combine and tractor store , or NAPA.
I have to remember gl3-4.

( I wonder how fast the 250 is going to go on the flats?. If it can't do 70 then I will possibly be
run over by a little old lady. The speed limits out here are high.)

11 times on a bike and 2 in a car and rain in both directions each time..

you have to visit after June.
It doesn't rain at all after that.
I am betting you drove to in the spring when the dangerous
weather is upon us.
