Help with TS150 not sparking

Postby flatyre » Sat Feb 08, 2014 12:26 pm

Hi all, I just dragged a TS150 out of a barn with the intentions of getting it running, there is no spark at the moment so if anyone can give me advice on where to start that would be great. I bought a new denso plug, the old battery seems to be working though I've ordered a new one, can I use my multimeter t test the coil I some way? and do I need to strip the headlamp and check the ignition wiring? All I know is the battery was charged, the points were cleaned, and the new plug fitted but still no joy?

I would check that you have a good earth. I spent ages trying to get one of my bikes to spark a while ago. Points cleaned and gapped, swapped coils over. Cleaned all the connections and nothing. Then someone suggested an earth direct to the engine = big fat spark!

a good ground is always a good idea ...do not depend on the frame to provide it..
things in the headlamp do not ground very well through the fork neck bearings

Trace the power from source to ground.
With your meter bracket or straddle any connection or component.
If you have a bad connection the meter will provide an alternative route::
other than the high resistance connection. It will tell how much is being shunted.
A tenth of a volt is too much on a minor circuit. A half is way too much on a major
such as start or circuit. I am speaking of twelve volts here. On six volts I would be
much more concerned. This works on a digital volt meter, a tool which allows one to
see electricity, amaze your friends , and see wind.
