1979 TS 150 & crazy weld on a 250-1

Postby bullgoose » Thu Nov 21, 2013 9:00 am

Hi Folks.
Can anyone tell me which nut drains the trans oil out of the 150 engine? Is it the small one nearest the gear lever as i presume the other is the neutral plunger spring.
Also i don`t quite believe what i have just seen on my 5 speed 250/1. I removed the primary cover and the clutch body has been welded to the toothed rim for the clutch in 3 equidistant places. Mind you I should have known some mechanical monster owned this bike at sometime as the kick-start cotter pin has been replaced with a large machine screw hammered through the lever.
How do you upload photo’s.
Cheers

There's no neutral plunger spring on a small TS, they don't have a selector drum like you'd find on a Supafive or an ETZ.

Remove both bolts. One drains the gearbox (the big one), the other drains the primary drive casing.

Well it's original. I'll give you that!
I am always amazed at the abuse MZs seem to shrug off. A great friend of mine bought a Supa5 for a pint and a sandwich. He rode it back from Hampshire to West Yorkshire and it sounded like a cement mixer. You could hear it coming from about half a mile off. he decided to just keep riding it till it finally died, but a year later he admitted defeat and sold/gave it to a mate. I think it ran for another 6 months before the new owner decided to rebuild it anyway.

I don’t know why someone who can weld that cleanly did not have some kind of mechanical sympathy. I bought the bike unseen from someone in the British owners club via a mate for £40 a good few years ago now, and he brought it up north on his trailer from Hertfordshire. I did start the bugger up after replacing a broken carb needle - putting the coil feed the right way round and tightening up the primary cover which was full of clean rain water. The mains sounded dreadful (Like a ball bearing going round in a dust bin lid) so I put it away until I could be arsed to do something about it as I have next to no knowledge of MZs.
