ETZ forks and brakes ...

Hi guys

I'm mulling over a winter project to fit a complete ETZ front end to my '66 BSA Victor, so I can get some better forks and a disc brake.

A few questions:

a) Are the front ends identical on the ETZ 125, 250 and 301?
b) Did the brakes swap between Brembo and Grimeca at some time? Which are best?
c) Anyone laced a 21" rim to an ETZ hub? I ride Long Distance Trials for my sins.

and

d) Anyone got a complete ETZ front end they'd like to exchange for some beer tokens?

Apart from the fork springs, yes for all practical purposes.

Calipers - Real Brembos were only fitted to early ETZ250s, and for not very long. They're badged Brembo. The MZ badged ones are a copy by MZ, and they're not quite as good, but not bad. Parts availability for both of the above is OK. There are no Grimeca calipers.

Masters - The Grimeca master cylinder is better than the original round MZ master, but spares for the Grimeca are more difficult to get hold of. Both work well on an MZ

I don't want to rain on your parade, but MZ forks are quite difficult to get hold of, for the same reason as you are looking := pre 65 trials. Everybody wants them, but if you do manage to source a pair, good luck with the conversion! :)

Hi

I've sourced an ETZ front end (well, a complete bike actually) via fleabay.

I need to use the BSA fork stem with the MZ yokes as it is the correct length for the headstock and correct diameter for the bearings.

How do I remove the MZ fork stem from the bottom yoke? I don't want to go bashing it with the BFH if it's threaded in ...

Starting from the top, the fork leg is held in but the large shouldered nut at the top which screws into the thread inside the stanchion.
Then you have the lower fork clamp on the tree, then out she comes.
The bottom of the leg is held in place with a nut underneath (turn the leg upside down and you'll see it) 10mm spanner from memory, which threads onto the inner.

Thanks for that.

I've already dropped the legs out of the yokes and removed the yokes from the headstock.

My issue is how do I remove the centre stem (linking the two yokes) from the bottom yoke? Is it a press fit, threaded or ...?

Large nut on top and the drift from memory, I am hung up (lost nerve) on putting baby TS motors together. You need a manual - you can get them online from the MZ club.

I might have one soft somewhere, even a haynes would do.
