Flashers

Postby llanwnda » Thu Oct 31, 2013 12:21 pm

Hi I have a 1996 Scorpion Sport went to Stafford 19/10 285 miles return trip.On the way home noticed indicator blinkers not operating correctly. I indicated right or left and the appropriate lights came on but did not blink.Got back home fuses were badly corroded so changed them and blinkers started to operate correctly. Went for a short run and the problem returned ie blinkers came on but did not blink.Got a new blinker unit from the dealer plugged in nothing. My multimeter shows power is reaching the flasher unit. Put the old unit back on nothing. Any ideas is there a relay that could have failed . Don"t have a wiring diagram.I aint smart any help appreciated

?? handlebar switch may need a cleaning
if bike lives in a damp area
its very damp here and electrical things don't work very well

if you take the switch apart be careful as lost parts are hard to find

Thanks for the suggestions. The situation now is that they are working with the original flasher unit in place. Thats £24 wasted. The fuse may have been the problem but on the other hand on my trip back from Stafford whilst on the M54 I went through a tremendous downpour of rain had I been on any other road than the motorway I would have pulled over until the rain eased a bit. Perhaps water got in the switch and it has dried out whilst in the garage.I had read the posts and had decided to check out the switch and fuses. The bike was in the garage with the seats off and the blinker unit wires unconnected I thought before I start pulling things apart just give it one more try.Connected the wires to the original blinker unit and hey presto they worked. Doused the fuses with wd40 before putting on the rubber cover short trip out and they still work.So there you are 60 years biking and thats the first time any bike I have had has cured itself.Celebrating now with a bottle of Black Sheep
