Front brake switch

Maybe a random question, but where is the switch for the front brake light please

What bike are you asking about? The TS series do not have a front brake switch, it is not required. ( although there were some front brake plates with a built in switch .... never come across one myself)

My very early ETZ 250 standard didn't have one either... Otherwise, on the ETZs and Saxons I've encountered, it has been on the side of the lever mount/master cylinder on the handlebar. It's a mechanical switch, and the lever bears against it when at rest to open it. Be warned - they're horrible things which self destruct if you have to fiddle with them too much. A friend of mine disliked the brake light switches on his MZ so much that he made his own from ballpoint pens - very zed cred! I think there's a chap in the MZRC who can supply hyrdraulic switches and the fittings required to connect them to the master cylinder, in line with a braided steel hose, if you want to spend a bit more money!

oh sorry....yes it's a 1995 MZ301
back one works fine, just the front one doesnt

if its hydraulic brake master cylinder its a bmw part

the front one is a bmw part
61 31 1 244 070

and appears as early as 1972 on the hd/aermacchi 250/350 sprint

And they are horrible fiddly things that break if you look at them wrong!

These fit the rectangular Grimeca master cylinder, and last as long as the steel originals:

well i removed the brake itself (that was very easy) but still can't work out the switch bit ?

Quite often the switch breaks flush with the master cylinder

Just leaving the threaded portion corroded in place. It's one of the few times I would use an easyout to get the threaded bit out

That brake light switch was a bit faulty on my etz, light would stay on unless I lifted the brake lever when releasing it, bought another switch of eBay for £7,
old one came out with the mole grips then put the new one in, now as good as new
