Skorpion rev counter problem

Postby UNNA » Fri Jun 28, 2013 3:01 am

My Skorpion rev counter swings to and fro like a pendulum. Is this likely to be in the rev counter or the sender unit? How easy is to get to the sender unit?

I used to call my rev counter "Lord Lucan" because it swung madly and then one day disappeared without trace!

known issue with this tacho....not in sender unit which is coil, most likely in the tach itself...they are crap..what year skorp? There were 2 different tachs, early before '02 and after. later tachs were better, but supposedly not interchangeable with early ones...

It is a 1994. I have just bought it with 19,000 km registered. Presumably it has averaged 2000km a year. It is like new.

take a look inside may need cleaned and some one that knows how to solder electronics
rework the circuit board
if its lived in an area where humidity is high it may have some bad joints in side

also check the relay 19 and relay 30 articles
this relay supplies power to the whole bike
it's relay 30 on the 660 bikes drawing
relay 30 powers the ignition unit it may seem to run ok
but the tach does not like the power being supplied so it goes nuts

on my rt125 the tach acted up for several days
then bike died
sorted it to bad relay 19
after replacement TACH problem went away
the contacts in the relay went bad

watch the spade lugs on the wires they get weak and do not grip the wires
they also break off the wire ...wires in side the covering turn to green slime and all thats left is the covering

Thanks for that. I do live in moderately humid part of northern New Zealand so I will replace the relay and take the rev counter in for service. Is there a part number for the relay and where is the best source of them?
