MZ 1000sf seems to have gone in Safe mode

Postby Geno » Mon Feb 04, 2013 5:31 am

Hello
I would greatly appreciate any help of suggestion in correcting the problem. a Friend of mine got a MZ1000sf 2006 model and a mind boggling problem occurred from switch off and restarting the bike.

The bike went well until stopped and switched it off and when he got on the bike again after starting he noticed that the engine warning light is on, the rev counter as well as the speed o does not work the temperature gauge is inactive and the cooling fan is running permanently.

Before the stop the bike was not warm in the sense of registering a a high temperature or any thing funny.
The bike starts fine but it seems that it lacks a bit of power, as if it went into a safe mode. Any Ideas as we are here in South Africa without any dealer support.

regards
Eugene

check all the plugs to the speedo and tack cluster "the clocks" in UK English

my 98 Nissan fronteir truck goes nuts if the plugs come unhooked or the speed o dies
with almost the same results
may even be where it plugs into the main computer
and the grounds (earths) for the whole harness
and living near the Sea could cause problems
not a sure thing but a place to start

note if its has a flexible printed circuit board like some cars
the copper trace at connect points is best cleaned with an eraser on a good quality number 2 pencil
art gum eraser will also work but you then need to clean things up with a paper towel as the art gum leaves a lot
of its self behind

Hello David
Thank you very much for the advice on possible problem areas. We will strip down most of the body work to get to all the plugs and earth point and clean them out as you suggested. Please hold thumbs that the problem would be of the past. Will keep you posted on progress made.
Tks again

engineers think cheap the results is stuff thats a pain

like a speed sensor it should have an out put to the speedo
and a completely separate out put to the engine computer

when the speedo on a nissan truck dies its tow time unless you have a very big battery
because the charge system stops working
seems they run every thing through the speedometer

what a pain been fighting this truck problem for 6 months
and its a NLA speedometer
