Shock Absorbers - Spring Preload Adjuster

Postby stuart-glos » Sun May 20, 2012 3:01 am

The collars that adjust the spring pre-load seem to be stuck solid.

I've had them soaking in oil for a week or so and tried easing them off under pressure and tapping with a hammer.

Any hints on how to free these off. The Haynes manual just says to "lift the off" but they're stuck solid.

thanks

Try warming them gently with a hot air gun.

Do not be tempted to hammer on the sticky-outy bits, or apply any more force than you can with your hand!

I suppose you could potentially take the shock off, turn it upside down, find a bit of pipe or something which will sit over the bottom mount and bear onto the adjuster, and tap that downward. Wish I'd tried that on mine now..!
