mastiff starting problems

Postby 660_rider » Fri Feb 10, 2012 3:07 pm

Hi folks, my 02 mastiff wont start, its turning over fine, its getting fuel and as far as i can tell the spark seems decent enough, spark plug always comes out wet though, everytime. it was starting fine and running fine before the winter, switched it off and put it away in the shed, its not been touched since, charged the battery and now it wont start.

And has anyone got any links to a manual to this bike?

Thanks.

start by cleaning plug or a new one, drain float bowl and with charged battery and fresh fuel, should start up.
i know if i leave my baggy for a while without running carb dry it will not start easily,if left for a couple of days its fine but any longer it needs carb draining, hence why i always turn fuel off before i get home then i know a week or so later it will always start.good luck with it

Hi 660_rider.
The standard plug is a NGK DPR9EA .9
But personally I find the NGK DPR9EIX-9 Iridium is the better plug for easier starting, though more expensive.

But turn your fuel tap off and run the carb dry, to ensure good start up at a later date.

Thanks for the help guys, got it running, new plug and fresh fuel, took a bit of cranking but it went, and starting no probs now. Fell back in love with it as soon as I heard its great sound again.

Thanks again

amazing what fresh fuel will do,and a new plug....just remember to turn off petcock and let it run till it stops...use Stabil or Seafoam to ensure good fuel and cleanliness of the carbs...especially if let for awhile..:)
