ETZ125 Crank Seals

Hello Chaps and Chapeses,

I am a returning member to MZ Riders and am in the process of restoring my ETZ125 to its former "glory" ?--some week and a few beers ago I removed the crank seal from behind the clutch and have forgotten which way round it fits--I think it was "Writing side out" but would like to be certain before I fit a new one, Any advice will be much appreciated.I have a manual but still cant work it out! Hope to see some of you soon, I will be attending Yorkshire Section (MZ Riders) meetings when I get my bike and my act together.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer definitively offhand, but I would tend to agree that you are right - writing out, springy bit in. I've got a kit-form engine in an ammo box outside the back door, so next time I'm home in daylight, I will try and remember to have a quick look at the seal cap and see which way it's fitted.

Having said all that, I suspect a quick phone call to Burwins would confirm that you're right without anyone having to venture outside!

Thanks--You are right, concave side toward the crank--and a call to Burwins confirmed it! With a bit of luck it should be up and running soon!

I have no knowledge of the 125 engine,

And I don't want to put doubt in your mind BUT, on the ETZ 250 the crank seal behind the clutch is fitted spring side out, this you would think is the wrong way round but that is how MZ fit them.

My brother built three 250 engines and fitted them the other way (normal) way round, and we never had any trouble with them, so I don't think it really matters which way round you fit them.
