Sticking in 2nd

Postby benskorpion » Wed Oct 05, 2011 1:51 pm

Hi,

I have been getting used to riding my 2001 Skorpion tour, and one thing I am finding is that when switching to 2nd gear, if I have not gained enough speed, the engine chugs, and the bike bucks like a rodeo bull :) Its fine if I drop back to 1st, accelerate, and THEN go into 2nd, but it seems extreme. Means I have to ride too fast around town just to hit 2nd :?

I don't think it's because I'm not going fast enough because on the motorcycle safety course I did one could go very slow in 2nd and use it for general slow maneuvering; much smoother than 1st.

Anybody any ideas? Is it just the carbs, or could it be the gears and if so, is it difficult/expensive to fix.

Thx all.

at what rpm are you shifting from in 1st? YOU SHOULD NOT!!! LUG THIS MOTOR
any thing below about 3k is not recommended....so shift out of 1st around 4k
2nd is alot higher and will bog a bit if not going fast enough

Once the rain passed, I drove my bike around a little. Very enjoyable! :) Getting much more comfortable and used to it now. That chugging was definitely just me hitting 2nd too soon. Just some adjustment pains as I get used to the bike, and motorcycling in general. Thanks guys.

I had to "unlearn" several habits from my time on enduro bikes (especially when to shift).
The Skorpions definitely become more fun to ride as you figure out how to get the most out of it.
Keep riding and enjoy.
