 I'm not familiar with the RT 125 myself but the problem would be explained by the starter cluch (if fitted) not engaging. When you had the starter out did the gear spin freely in both directions?

Sorry for the late reply guys had computer problems, firstly id like to thank dave for his help in identifying our starter problem, sa usual he was spot on with his diagnosis. We ended up putting the bike into local shop to be fixed and yeh it was as dave said here the starter clutch ,im glad we put it into be done because they had alot of difficulty with engine casing allen key bolts breaking, had to replace 6 altogether starter clutch was same as a yamaha 125 but was still £90.00 gulp!! the job cost £220.00 thats about $440 i think! but in that price was starter clutch, engine oil, filter, front tyre , wheel bearings & front brake light switch of which the bike needed to pass the MOT plus labour & collection of the bike at the start, so i dont think that price was to bad, anyways thought id let you guys know and thanks for your time and help once again, cheers!!

Hi amigos, I just had the same problem with the free wheel starter clutch of my 1994 Saxon tour 500 . Since MUZ motorcycle are unknown in Mexico, (I got mine from the US) there are no parts dealers, import from US or Europe is kind of a trouble. I serched the web and found GUNTER SIX who sent me the whole repair manual (which I appreciatte very much)
I have some mechanical experience so I took the part off and found that it was allready fixed. seams like a previos repairmen, made an insert and welded to the center of the gear. But the problem was that the gear has a rockwell hardness of 55 and the insert was only 33, since the rollers of the clutch get in contact with this inserted part, the softer material was ground finally loosing the grip capability.
I bougth some Machinery Steel, turned the part in a lathe, visit the gear hobbers shop, a good and even heat treatment and finally a fine ground. I replaced the needle bearing and put all back togheter, and it worked as it should.
Now I have to inspect the oil filter and the cranckase screen, to clean the metal grounds that should be in there.
It seams to me that the clutch system is a little undersize and the problem is going to come back. I hope not but I´ll be prepared.
By the way, the total cost of the part was $ 59.00 dls. Saludos.

.rar file contains vids and pics of starter clutch being replaced by me. I'm not a mechanic, in the vids i start the bike with the engine cover off just to show the problem, this is not advised.
