height adjustment

Postby hksigman » Mon Jan 10, 2005 11:41 pm

has anyone done the height adjustment on their own if they were short and purchased a "normal" height mz? I know they say they have the "reduced height" model/option.

Im wondering if this is a difficult thing to do on your own? any specialty parts/tools neede?

The forks on the reduced height version are shorter and simpler, I am not sure whats different in the back, I thought it was the linkage dogbones, but a quick measurement of both height versions shows the same length. Perhaps it is the link itself, or the shock length.

BTW, if you have a tall one and would like the reduced, maybe we can work out a suspension trade of some kind :)

height reduction

Postby oldboyonrgv » Tue Jan 11, 2005 6:09 am

Height reduction by MZ is done by shorter shock at rear and different forks on the front.

BUT you can do it yourself - longer dogbones will drop the back (although you may have to use more preload and damping because of the higher leverage) and pushing the forks through the yokes will drop the front
Originally MZ used to sell the longer dogbones then they stopped.

I used to run my Baggy with 20MM fronk fork pushed through to speed up the steering (used to get a bit lively at 90MPH+ though  )

besides a side by side comparison is there anyway or anything to look for to see if it is a normal height or a height reduced mz?

The two bikes im lookin at are not at mz dealers. They are both 2001 bikes. One is a used black panther and the other is a brand new street moto.

what is the height of a normal mz? reduced mz?

any help appreciated.

the easy way to spot the difference is to look for the adjustment knobs on top of the forks, only the tall versions have them
