RT 125 rebuild

Postby jaynescott » Mon Dec 13, 2010 3:18 pm

Hi, I'm new to the forum so not quite sure how this all works!

We own an MZ RT125 which my son trashed last year, his girlfriend has now just passed her CBT and we're trying to resurrect the bike. The damage was mainly cosmetic, but the bike has stood for 12 months now waiting for the insurance company to sort things out.

We've found replacements via Ebay and Grahams Motorcycles but are struggling to know what to do with/how to attack the carb to clean it out and get the bike started again.

If anyone can offer any advice, I'd be really grateful.

Thanks

Spray the carb with some carb cleaner then get an ultrasonic cleaning bath off Ebay and stick the carb in it with some washing up liquid and very hot water. This will shift most of the oxidation and gum from the carb internals. Also flush the cooling system out with a distilled water and white vinegar mix. This will clean any deposits from the cooling system.
Change the oil filter and do an oil change and fit a new plug. That should get you most of the way to getting the engine started.

Thanks for the speedy reply and all your advice David, we'll try to out your remedy as soon as I can get hold of the ultrasonic cleaning bath - we were all very impressed by the look of that little gadget! :)

I'll let you know how it all went.
