baghira carbs

Postby dazlandy » Sun Nov 28, 2010 6:31 pm

hi chaps , just looking for a little guidance, my new baghira runs sweet as a nut with its aftermarket exhaust ( on it when i bought it a couple of weeks ago), the only problem is , when its good and warm , it has a tendancy to cut out on tick over (whilst waiting at traffic lights or road junctions) , and refusing to start again until about 2 minutes or so have passed, then she fires up and runs like a watch ! this has happened almost every time i have taken her out and is a pain in the neck !

it starts from cold very easily , and only needs a sniff of choke , which can be shut off as soon as she fires up, could it be a bit rich on the lower (pilot) settings ?
its only done 2k miles and is in fine order , i dont know if the guy fitting the new tail pipe made any setting changes, and suggestions would be welcome
cheers

i believe the mastiff has the tacho , mine only has a speedo in kmh (secondary mph markings),
my old 1952 panther (600 single) can tick over slow enough to count the beats !, but then it does have a flywheel the size of yorkshire !......perhaps i will need to borrow an electronic clip-on tacho for the baggi ,

still cant find any service info or manuals for it though !, any ideas chaps ? :?:

Daz,

My Baghira cut out on tickover sometimes so I just wound the idle adjuster screw up a bit (LHS, on the carb) like basser is hinting at, and it cured it.

No tacho as standard on the baggy but I just listened to it and twiddled til it sounded about right. I like the tickover a bit higher anyway to stop the back end locking if I'm stamping down the gears!!

Not found any service info either, but mine came with a small yellow MZ owners handbook/manual, so maybe something in there?

jf you go to yahoo groups and join mzog I believe there is service info there...also the engine is the same as an SZR or XTZ660 so a manual
for them is also a good source of info...this group knows so much about these bikes, all ya have to do is ask....your owners manual will give
useful info.
If ya go to Youtube and look up Skorpion or baggi I think there are some sound clips that will help determine idle speed by sound :)

I had the same exact problem after I installed Dale Walker’s Hole Shot exhaust on my 2002 Scorpion. You will find a specific jet kit for about $25 with instructions on setting the needles and re-synchronizing the carbs by calling Dale (775-463-5394). He doesn’t list MZ products on his web site anymore but talk with him in person…he’ll dial you in.

It took me about 2 hours to dismantle, clean, rebuild and reinstall. By far the best move I’ve ever made! My Scorpion runs smoother, starts easier, is better on gas and has what feels like more horsepower than before.

I hate to suggest tearing into things, but letting things breath better means, unfortunately, changing the carb settings also. At least the info comes cheap.
