Hi everyone.
I have recently acquired a ETZ 125cc, after a few issues resetting points, battery change and some dodgy electronics (probably down to the previous owner), I had a working machine!
Although it was working, it seemed a little low in power and there were certainly issue with the gearing as it was able to bump start with the clutch in...
One night on a ride from work, going up a hill, I lost all power and could not select any gear. So after pushing it some 8/9 miles, drained the engine oil, and took the clutch to pieces... to my surprise, I found this:
Yes, they are my friction plates, all of them! Came out like that.
I'm going to give Burwin's a call in the morning to order some replacements, however I have a some of questions before I replace them.
1) Has anybody seen anything like this before?
2) What could the possible causes be? I don't really want to put some new friction plates if them cracking is a symptom and not the problem itself.
3) I know it is quite hard to tell, I'll try get some better pictures up, but do they look like MZ friction plates or after-market replacements.
A couple of reason why I think it's happened is that they are after market and a previous owner has took a hack saw to them to make them fit, if you notice they have all cracked in pretty much the same place. But without knowing what original plates look like I couldn't say.
Secondly, from the smell, look and feel of it the engine oil looked just to be four stroke oil they had bunged in, so glad I removed that, would that lead to such catastrophic clutch failure?
Thanks
