STARTER RELAY SOLUTION

Postby oythaammaowaere » Thu Nov 04, 2010 11:11 am

I have noticed that quite a lot of you have experienced Starter Relay problems.
Thanks to the posts on here I was able to isolate the problem with my 95 Skorpion.

Symptom:
Starter motor not turning but relay clicks

Testing:
Battery OK( Make Sure!)
Short Circuit large terminals on Starter Relay = Starter motor turns over = Starter motor OK
Disconnect junction block to relay.Connect a wire from battery negative to red and white relay terminal, connect a wire to the blue and white terminal then touch this to the battery
positive. If the starter turns the relay is ok but the starter switch or wiring to it faulty. If the starter doesnt turn the fault lies with the relay.

I found a replacement for £21 inc P&P here ( XTZ660 tenere 91-98) pretty much the same thing right down to the wire colors and connecter:

Delivered within 24hrs its on the bike and working fine :D

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm sure that it'll help someone who struggles a bit with electrics - like me :-D !
Baghira 660 for the road, CCM 404 for green laning. Singles rock!
