baghira

Postby dazlandy » Mon Nov 01, 2010 4:33 pm

hi chaps
just bought a 2005 baghira , love the bike although it doesnt seem as tall as it should be (not worn , only 2000 miles)
think it may be the "hr" stumpy version , any ideas on how to "jack it up" , i cant seem to figure out how to adjust the ride height , as i am a heavy weight over 6 foot tall, i could do with the extra height on the bike, i have been told there were rear suspension linkages available to alter the height .
any advice would be very gratefully recieved

cheers

Post up some pics if you can, or measure seat height and/or dogbones and I'll compare it to mine.

Most likely longer dogbones on it to drop seat height. Should be able to get some standard ones or get a local engineer to knock some up.

I´ve got the HR Baggy too, but it suits my little legs.

They use a 2"shorter fork (with no adjustment, that´s the give away) and a shorter rear shock.

The only way to pop it back to full height is replace the forks and shock off a full height one. :(

thanks guys

it seems you are right , they are shorter forx and shock (the dogbones are standard 120mm centre to centre)
although i may be able to make a couple of "slugs" for the top of the forks to allow them to slide down in their clamps, and i am considering making an extended mount for the shock (same travel but overall length increase ) a bit drastic but i need it to be higher !,
i think it may have the shorter masiff suspension parts ! ......the cause of confusion was that i read that the seat height was adjustable !......not true !......dont suppose anyone got a pdf of a manual ?,,
info on these bikes is a bit scarce !

cheers chaps,

Your mods sound the best way to go Daz, if you're a bit handy and got access to the metal and the tools to work it. :D

The forks will be the tough bit. :?

If you're in the uk, you could have a word with a lady called Kayla at www.projection-components.co.uk.

She can make dog-bones, shock mounts etc to suit. Just a small home-based business.

Tell her Dave from the TRX850 forum sent you!!

er...chaps... would any of you baghira owners be able to take a couple of measurements for me ? i got a short-arse baggy needing elevation, i would be gratefull for the distance between the front axle and the top of the fork leg / upper surface of top clamp , also the distance between mounting eyes of the rear shock, ((both "off load" fully extended)

many thanx

In reality the 660 5-valve is an engine designed to run high revs, grabbing a handful of throttle below 2500 rpm is asking for trouble (enginewise) and if you at any point feel that it is a bit lumpy, chain snatching etc the revs are too low.. actually it runs best around 4000 rpm.

Essentially; Keep the revs up and the engine is bulltproof, however riding it like a single from yesteryears it will break down...

Anders, would grabbing a handful of throttle in 1st or 2nd gear under 2500rpm be harmful to the engine?
Thanks, Ed

my traveller is not a very happy bike below 3000 rpm and does not seem to really work
correct till 3800 and up
and my rear sprocket is a 43 tooth it had a 39 on it when i got it last year and was geared
way tooo tall for how i use it
almost all roads my area are posted 45 mph just a few 55mph and only 2 60 or higher
so its real easy to get speeding tickets with a bad running 125cc bike

Thanks, Ed

As long as your bike takes revs without lumpiness and chain snatching you're ok. My post was essentialy adressing the way that people tend to ride big singles, i.e 5:th gear and 25-30mph then giving it some stick to get that thumping feeling... :D

taken from parts list,hr version shock absorber 412mm,spring 240mm,spring rate 80n/m,preload 16mm,and the full height version is 425mm,260mm,75n/m and28mm preload, and there seems to be 2 types of swingarm, baghira sm,baghira hr and the baghira sm hr and mastiff models, all have the non adj forks i think,i know mine is the baghira hr enduro but i also have a set of the longer sm forks which lift the front of the bike a little as when i have the sm wheels fitted the bike dips a bit at the front as it came with 18/21 wheels when new, hope this helps, cheers
