hello
lots of luck with the smog stuff my rt125 is a beast to get started
if it sets for a week or 2 and must be primed by puting raw gas into
the intake ahead of the carb
it set from nov 15 to tonite and took me almost 2 hours of work
to get it started mostly because of how lean the carb runs

if you take off the smog stuff be sure to save it and a drawing
of how to put it back

as time goes on you may need to put it back to pass local
smog laws at yearly inspections

when i got my rt125 inspected last year the guy said
not to loose any thing i took off as the boy's in the state capital
said that it would cause bikes to fail insp in about 5 to 8 years
as the laws change
and be nice if you sell the bike give the stuff to the next guy
as he may be in a state or city where he needs it
this is my standard note of warning so you dont cry when it wont pass

Don't give up hope yet. I have a skorpion traveler that I thought the same thing. Ditch the snorkle, open up the idle mixture screw 5-7 turns, then cut open the stock muffler and loose the cat converter. Your bike will run 200% better.

Unless you are prepared to alter the jetting then Don't do any airbox mods, these things run lean standard to satisfy the emission laws, here is a link to what you should do to the carbs http://www.motorradna.com/STOCKCARBMODS.HTM
I would suggest that you do this first then remove the snorkel, the bike will run a lot better with the carb mods.
After that you will need to change the muffler
After that you will need to change the header pipes
After that you will need to re-configure the airbox
After that you will need to have the Ignition box modified (to cut at 8100RPM not the 7100 they do as standard)
After that you will need to use the JE piston (lighter with more compression)
After that you will need to have the head gas flowed and a new cam
you will now have a bike which frightens you every tie you ride it :P

After that you are getting really serious !!! but I know how to do it ;-)
