Newbie on the scene of Mz's

Postby MZLUKE » Mon Oct 11, 2010 1:17 pm

Hey all, my names luke,Im 17 and I have a 1984/5 ( cant remember :-D ) etz 125. Ive had it for 7 months know and I have had ALOT of break downs, from rubbish in the carb to not starting to electrical problems, points etc.

The rubbish in the carb is sorted out know, ive fitted a 2nd in-line fuel filter, cleaned the carb out far to many times that Id like to remember lol the points and condenser are replaced but I still have this problem

Its not charging the battery? However this is the catch, when you put a meter over the battery when its running it shows 12volts and when you rev it up around 14 volts so its charging?

The battery was new around 5 months ago and have never been run flat??

second problem, popping and farting but only ocasionally :? its only when you open the throttle it does it and can be a little dangerous if your overtaking as its quite a violent jolt

The plugs burning perfect, the pistons perfect, the bore is perfect and smooth ( no lip) so I am at a loss with it to be honest

Has anyone got any idea's what my problems could be?

thanks in advance

luke

hi luke, your problems can be so annoying and hard to put your attention in the right area but your going in the right direction ,go through it methodically , checking spade connections are firm and dont pull off easy, clean up the earth connections try new condenser coil etc, read my thread on supa 5 charge problems , ive been run ragged and all along it was my plug cap . Persevere and you ll get there, ive had a few etz 125 s and they are very robust and reliable.

Thanks mate, I took it off the road over winter due to the problems I have been having so I have decided to give it a little TLC, I am looking at getting a new fuse box

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-Way-Universal-Q ... _500wt_922 Like this but with more/less blades

I am also going to replace the coil, condenser, and points, regulator, brushes, plug lead and cap and IF I can find it a new wiring loom, new indicators, throttle, rear brake light and a general paint up to get it fresh ready for this years commuting. I dont want to spend too much on it but need it to be reliable and not to break down

Also tyres too, I am going to try and find a more modern set of tyres aswell to modernise it a little. Id like a front disc conversion as mine is only drumbrakes but dont think I can afford it

I will post a build thread up when I start the strip down :-D :-D
