Mikuni settings?

Postby macsquirty » Mon Sep 27, 2010 1:26 am

Hi, i think this is my second posting now although i have been trawling this site for a few months now and have found some fantastic info regarding my Baghira Black Panther.
I have just bought a pair of Mikuni 34mm flatslides but they have not been set up and would love to know if anyone can help with the jets and needles recomended for my bike before i fit them.
The engine is standard apart from a small head skim (upped the compression a tad) and a BSM Vampire end can.
Any info will be greatly received.
Kind regards.

I have a spare set of Mikuni flatslides (TM34-B65) set up for a stock XT/SRX600 that I havent had time to fit to my SRX yet. I can check jets and needles this weekend, it should give you a fairly good starting point at least. One thing comes to mind, you may need to adjust the acceleretor pump setting as well.

The setup from my Skorpion Mikuni flatslides would not be that helpful as the engine has too much work done, besides I would have to take them off the bike to check as the ex SZR Supermono setting they came with was pretty much spot on so I have not bothered to look into the details of them.

That would be a huge help thank you.....they actually arrived today and look better up close than in the picture. I bought them from ebay and paid £65, there not knew and came from a GSXR750, i hope there the right ones as they are Mikuni 34mm flatslides but i do not know if they are what you would call TM34-B65!
I cant wait to ride with them.... i have some reservations with there performance and do not know what to expect but they must be an improvent over the stock Tekei ones going on the feedback i have read.
Thanks again,
Mac

The TM34-B65 carb set is more or less a direct aftermarket replacment for the stock Tekei CV carb and a half.
See viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3536

Are the GSXR carbs all mechanical lift or CV assisted?
I believe both where used depending on year/model, if they are CV (vacuum lift) assisted you will not get the same crisp throttle response of a full mechanical lift but they should still be better and easier to tune than the stock Tekei.

They appear to be mechanical as both the slides operate smoothly from base to wide open via the throttle linkage.....phew! didn't realise there were cv ones aswell,

Mikuni TM34-B65 base set up for XT/SRX600, the 660 may need to go a little bigger on the main jet but its a god starting point

Main jet: #105
Secondary: #20
Needle: Middle position
Mixture 1-1.5 turns out

Anders thank you very much.......i appreciate you putting yourself out to help me and can now start to play with the carbs.
I will be investing in the ignitech sparker over the next few weeks and a 47 tooth rear sprocket ( as opposed to 45teeth at the moment )and will set these up with a higher rpm range than stock, my expectations are to get that front wheel up smoother. With all the above setup it should be a grin.
Thanks again Anders and safe biking.
