Black plugs on my etz251

I own a 92 etz 251 that gives me very good service,now done around 20,ooo miles.She starts first time every time and ticks over very nice.My question is why is the spark plug allways black but not oily when removed.Any one have any ideas .

may have to do with the brand of oil your using
if its running good and bike has good compression you should not have a problem

do inspect the exhaust pipe for carbon build up as all the 2 smokers i had needed the carbon cleaned out of the pipe
and head on a regular basis but that was in the late 60,s the oil is much better now

I would check that the choke, cold start, is closing properly, on the BVF carburettor the rubber seal deterioration and so lets more fuel into the carb, the later Bing carb may be the same.

Thanks for the info chaps,will look into it, ps use only semi synthetic oil in the oil tank, to reduce any smoke!!
Good old machine though would be lost without it
