not getting enough gas

Postby funnygirl1174 » Fri Jul 16, 2010 9:28 am

hi...I have a moskito 125r. I don't use it that often since it is located at my parents summer house. When I try to start the bike cold, it will start right up. Once I have ridden it for awhile, and then I try to start it, it will not. I have determined that it is getting too much air and not enough gas. When you place your hand over the air intake, the bike will start shortly after. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

i had the very same problem on my 125 sm which apparently has the same engine.
i was also "solving" it by cupping the air intake.

turned out to be gunked up carburetor. these bikes are very sensitive in this respect.
i removed it and brought it in to a local motorcycle mechanic who was able to clean it up.
after some carb screws adjustments, the issue went away

Thanks for the help...I think it is kind of difficult to get to the carb...but have put carb cleaner in the gas and am hoping that it will solve the problem. I suspect I will then have to replace the fuel filter if all the crap in the carb ends up there. Do you think the carb cleaner is enough to fix the problem or should I take it somewhere to have them remove and clean the carb?

Since you do not ride it too much and it sits for extended periods, it will probably need the carb removed and thoroughly cleaned to get all the gum out. After that, prepare the bike for the next long term storage by using a gasoline additive like Stabil to prevent deposits from building up again. :-D
