125 saxon sportsstar engine cover

Postby 94mzmart » Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:27 am

Hi all,
Just after a little info from somebody in the know...

Image

to remove the right hand side engine cover on my 125 saxon sportstar, do i have to remove the alternator/generator?

In my Haynes manual it does not mention having to remove the alternator/generator. So I'm a little confused (nothing new there then when it comes to my MZ!).

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Hello Martin!

You can remove de right-hand crankase cover without remove generator.

Only unscrew the four in the cover. I always open the crankcase cover, it
is more clear for work. Generator window is only for setting the contact breaker gap
or sensor in electric ignition.

Remember a small steel ball into the crankcase cover clutch lifting arm, usually ball fall
and very difficult to found :? :)

I saw you wanted a gearchange shaft but I think you only need a new return spring.
Sadly for change either two pieces you need open the half crankcases.

Martin, you write in a paper colours and position of generator wires.

A old car-lift like picture help a lot; down the engine is unconfortable, it is a bit
heavy.

Haynes: the book do not talk the heat for dismantling and assembling
the engine.

Special tools: Very important, like heat, to easy work without damages.

Saludos/Regards.

hello manumensa.

thanks for your reply and the helpful hints.
I did think about the jack, i have a small trolley jack that will help there.
Yes i'm looking for a new selector shaft. the shaft has sheared at the end of it. so i can't see it been the return spring. oh well.

I hope to get the engine out of the frame this weekend to take to my local MZ repair shop, and the right-hand cover doesn't seem to want to come off, without the rear brake lever been romeved first, as was suggested to me in an earlier post. so i will try that.

if i get stuck again i will return here :-D
thanks for the help to those who've replied. :D

Hurrah!
Job done, motor is out of the frame and ready to go Monday morning.
Fingers crossed it'll be as easy reversing all the steps to fit the motor back in the frame! :-D

Dave, I had to remove the right hand foot rest bracket to remove that cover. I got it sussed out!

Cheers guy's who responded :smt023
