best way to reposition handle bar grips?

In my earlier efforts to route the clutch and throttle cables i ended up slightly pulling the left handle grip off the handle bar.
its very minor, just enough for me to connect/disconnect the clutch cable, but its enough to let the plastic plate protecting the clutch cable spin and wobble, and i'm sure would let the water in if i got caught in the rain.

short of using an air gun to blow it up and reset it, are there any tricks i can do to pull the grip all the way onto the bar?

If I understand your question, I've never been successful once the grip bond is partially broken to move the grip back to it's previous position. You can alway loosen the allen set screws to move the clutch bracket out snug against the grip, but a better solution is to just replace the grips IMHO. On my SilverStar the Smith full waffle grips perfectly matched my original grips, so I just installed them using the old hair spray method. This has always worked for me for years.

Hairspray method;
Take the handle off (using air or any method of your choice tha does not damage the handle), then clean and use haispray as lube when you mount it again. Wait overnight or so for the hairspray to dry and you will have a rock solid handle. If you want to re-set the handle you can loosen it again by "blowing" some water under the handle which will dissolve the hairspray .

yeah don you understood my question correctly.. it might come to me replacing the grip, but it is hardly used so i'm gonna try to remove and reattach it 1st..
anders i dont have an air gun for the removal, but your suggestion w hairspray gave me an idea that maybe i can use something else like olive oil to squirt under the grip and help that to be removed. then id wash it and reattach it with the hairspray trick. thanks

Hairspray, I have not heard that one before, but if it works i'll give it a go.
Usually use what use to be called duck oil (in Uk) or GT 85 penetrating oil with PTFE
Does the same job.

Thank you for the hairspray trick, I also never heard before!

The liquid most available is soap/water, and a nylon mallet for rebel grips and footrest.

Olive oil was after de Spañish Civil War the liquid for "general purpose" like medicine, food and domestic grease.
My grandmother used it with water for white magic spells. OSPRNG I can not avoid remember its when I read your post.

Yes, the hairspray works great for setting grips. It sets up faster if you punch a tiny 1/8" hole in the grip end on the closed end to allow the air to escape. But as far as spraying water under the grips after it sets up to remove grips that has never worked for me. Maybe I'm using the wrong hairspray brand? Grips are cheap so I just cut them off.

I just used it again this weekend. Picked up a new Bar Snake to see if it would help in the handlebar vibes/harmonics I got at high speed. Even used hairspray as a lubricant to pull the 7/8" "snake" through the bars after trying grease and even silicon spray w/o success. The hairspray worked best by far. Then I replaced the grips using more hairspray and let everything sit for 24 hours. All is rock solid now. The "Snake" helped a lot too damping the vibrations.

I use brake cleaner in the same way.......Slippery when wet, but because it gets rid of all the oils etc the grip holds realy firm
