Winterizing Carb

Postby nikitino » Sat Oct 24, 2009 6:13 pm

My bike is a 1995 Saxon Country 500 with the Bing carb. Is it a good idea to run all of the gas out of the carb while storing the bike over the winter? I've heard people say to leave gas in the carb and some say to run it all out. What is your preferred method if bike may not be ridden for a few months? I do have Stabil in the fuel.......

i park mine where they can be taken for a ride when we get some good days
i also try to run them if not ride them every couple weeks
running the bing dry may cause a problem of sucking dirt and crud from the botton of bowl into rest of carb
the bing float bowl is an easy clean out compared to other carbs

Yep, agree w. Dave. It all depends on where you live too. In 'Bama we usually have a day or two even during the coldest months to take a short ride. I'm new to MZs, but I've always kept Stabil in the tank over the winters on previous bikes (and all other gas engine stuff, like lawn tractors, generators, etc.), and at least start them up every two weeks at most. But a ride is best for bikes IMHO.

long layups on a bike are as hard on them as letting a teenager ride it ...

been driving my car a lot this fall
and water in the motorcycle tanks has been a major problem
