Hi,
Now I have ordered a Brembo P32f rear caliper for my Skorpion I have to insert an M8 thread insert into each hole in the caliper.
I have never used a helicoil before but I am willing to give it a try as I am familiar with conventional taps and dies.
1/ What tools are required without buying a complete Helicoil kit as I don't need it nor can I afford it?
2/ What alternatives to Helicoil are available and what would people recommend?
3/ What is the pitch of the insert needed? Is it 1mm or 1.25mm pitch?
4/ Would I have to drill the holes out to a larger size before tapping? If so, what size drill would I use?
As I do not have a drill press, drilling the holes will be a problem.
I'm assuming that the rethread tools are different from normal Taps and that some special tools ar needed.
Can someone give a brief description of the procedure used. As the calipers will be having a new thread started as against being rethreaded does this make a difference to the method used?
Thanks,
David.
