TS 250/1 - slow flashing turn signals

I know that having turn signals that flash weakly (or even weekly!) is not a new phenomenon, but I was wondering what solutions you may have found to obtain the best improvements.

I've bought a new set of 6v flasher bulbs and a new flasher relay and will replace them shortly.

A visual check of the lamp ground/earth points seem to suggest that all is OK (ish) but i could be wrong.

Is it worth adding new ground/earth leads anywhere?

How many volts does the bike actually produce? It may be that there is a shortage of electricity! Does the battery charge ok? Are the other lights dim?

Slow flashing indicators is usually a sign of not enough current.
I have a Lotus Elan which has a glass fibre body. The indicators were flashing very slowly. I connected a test meter to the outside of the bulb holder =the earth side and found a voltage of 2 or 3 volts when the bulb was illuminated. This is a symptom of poor earth: part of the voltage is being used to overcome the electrical resistance in the wires connecting back to the battery negative terminal.
Solution: I cleaned all connections and added an extra wire to connect the bulb holder to the car chassis. This reduced the electrical resistance for the current going back to the battery.
When my daughter bought an MZ251 there was a large red wire from the battery positive terminal but a tiny black wire from the negative terminal to the bike frame. People forget that the same current has to flow in each terminal. I fitted a larger diameter black wire to earth the battery.

Somewhat belatedly, that is actually what I ended up doing, namely clean up the connectors and ensure a good earth. The flashers then worked very well indeed. Job done!

I have now sold the TS250/1 to my friend and have replaced it with an ETZ251 which was in need of some TLC. No doubt I'll have some questions as the restoration progresses.
