kill switch help needed..

Postby 95SaxonTour » Tue Aug 11, 2009 11:22 am

My saxon tour has had the kill switches modified to not
kill the motor when switched off. Leaving the only way
to shut off the engine is using the decompression lever.
I'm assuming this "mod" was done by the previous owner
to save the starter when you kill the engine. The ignition
key switch doesn't shut off the engine either. This is good
thinking if it saves the starter, but how do you shut it off
if the decompression cable snaps?

I've checked the switch at the handlebar and no problems
there. The brown/white wire that connects with the black/
white wire from the ignition box in front of the battery has
some funky things going on that don't show up on the wiring
diagram that I have.

My questions are:

1) Are there only two wires coming into the coil right? Black
and orange. No brown wire connecting to the batteries neg
terrminal to the coil. right? This one does.

2) Could somebody with a rotax MZ send a pic of the fuse
box region of the bike. Specifically the coil and the wires
coming out of the ignition box.

3) Why do people do these kind of modifications anyway?

Thanks for any help,
Ryan

probably paid 2 fortunes to have the starter fixed

i would just put it in first and stall it or turn off the gas
here is only drawing i have
dave

the picture shows a potted device i do not know for sure but think it is used to ground or kill the ingition
found drawing its a interference filter 22 on drawing
as a wire of it goes in to loom to front
also the black white wire is grounded in the simple system on race motors to kill
i have not had any electrical problems with mine so have not did a lot of tracing

Yeah, what is that potted relay thing? Mine has that too.
I'm thinking that that may be the issue here with my bike
because I'm not finding any of the tell tale signs of PO
monkey business. No obvious wires dangling or hunks of
electric tape or wire nuts present. I did suspect the potted
relay contraption as a PO cob job till I saw the pic of yours.

I dont know how this relay works. Im thinking that when
the bike is grounded out (shut off) that the relay kicks in
and grounds it out directly to the frame. It does have a
lead that grounds out at the coil. One lead (black/white) is hooked
to the ignition box (black/white) and the other goes off to the
loom to the front (brown/white). Bear in mind, I can't find this
relay anywhere on the factory wiring schematic that is in the
owners manual. Of course, the manual also says I have a Dellorto
carb.

Would this prevent the bike from being shut off by either
grounding out the circuit from the ignition switch or the
handlebar switch? I have cleaned all the connectors to and
from the potted relay. I don't know how to check to see if
its the problem or not.

I could run a line from the black/white wire from the ignition
box to the handlebar swich and ground it out there right?
Black/white into the switch and a ground to the frame coming
out. Would this do the trick? Hate to add wires and hack. This
would be a last resort.

Any help would be appreciated
