2001 MZ Baghira ignition lock

Postby Revin Kevin » Fri Apr 03, 2009 8:12 am

Hi, I've just brought a 2001 MZ Baghira. However it was a recovered bike so the ignition lock is broken. I won't be picking up the bike until tomorrow, but I'm looking into replacement ignitions now. Are there any other ignition locks that will fit the Baghira, apart from the official MZ models? Or any that will fit well with a few minor modifications?

Thanks for any help in advance guys.

(Note: This is not being written by Revin Kevin but his son. My dad asked me to post this for him whilst he's at work, so if any information is off, or more is needed I apologise. My dad will be able to tell you more if needed.)

CHECK A BREAKER FOR ONE FROM LATE MODEL MOTO GUZZI
BREVA AND OTHERS TAKE THE OLD ONE WITH YOU
AND THE KEYS ARE HARD TO CUT MY LOCKSMITH HAS FITS WITH THEM EVEN WHEN I GIVE HIM ZADA BLANKS
SO TRY TO GET ONE WITH 2 KEYS OR THE KEY CUT NUMBER

Thanks for the help guys, I've found a lock that fits. For anyone else that needs one, the lock from an Aprilla RS50 fits perfect. The only thing that needs doing is the wiring on the ignition is different, and needs modifying. Everything else fits and locks, except there is no parking light.

Thanks again for the help!

If the ZADI lock used on the Baghira is the same as the Skorpion and Saxons, then replacement keys are readily available in the UK from 'Mister Minit' key cutting shops. Reference number is Silca ZD16RP. They also do replacement keys for the Hepco and Becker panniers fitted to Travellers, reference Silca LS13. (They don't have the plastic heads, but work OK).
I've had 3 sets of ignition keys and 2 sets of pannier keys cut, (in different shops), they all worked perfectly and the guys had no problems cutting them, so I suggest David finds a better locksmith!
