'96 Skorpion - No Spark, How to test the coil, CDI etc?

Postby pwillikers » Thu Feb 14, 2008 2:59 pm

My Skorp won't start. It cranks fine but there's no spark at the spark plug. I probed around and found 12V on the RW (red/white) wire between the coil and the ignition module in the attached photo. I replaced the spark plug and still no spark. I believe the only remaining suspects are the ignition coil, the ignition module and the "trigger coil in engine". What's the procedure for checking these? What voltage, resistance should I see where and when? Thanks.

in the middle of picture cut off relay also labeled relay 19 on my rt125
it died on my rt125 but before it did made the tach. read funny

do a search on site for relay 19
ar dave

jumper red black to red white at relay pin 3 to pin5
if bike starts and runs relay is not passing enough current to power everything
the relay on mine was very small and supplies power to a lot of the bike

link to my past post on relay 19

Just to close the loop on this topic. After an hour or so of probing with a meter etc. it miraculously fixed itself and now sparks nice and fat.

these bikes go bad on the plugs in the wiring harness the inside of the plug turns green

and in the rt125 i had a break in a wire.. when i found it the outside cover of wire was ok
inside was full of about 10mm of green slime that used to be the 14 gage wire

i under stand electrical and it a is a pain to find some times

i have been complaining for years about the too complex wiring harness on bikes
and it just gets worse just wait a while
they will be painting the tail lamps and turn signals on the body panels
with a digital module on the back side that will make it work with a signal
from the ECU
