Fairing Removal

Postby sign216 » Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:55 pm

I contemplate removing the fairing of my '99 Sport Cup to do all the work I've been saving for the winter months. It seems that I could keep the fairing screwed together, remove the bolts attaching the fairing to the bike, and lift the fairing off in one piece (saving a great deal of work). To let the fairing clear under the front wheel, I would suspend the bike's steering head with straps from the garage roof.

Would this work? Would it save any time?
In suspending the bike might the straps dislodge wires around the forks, and give me electrical issues?

That is quite possibly one of the worst case of cutting corners i've ever heard. For the sake of your bike being damaged, spend the 5 minutes it takes undoing the panel screws to remove your fairing. For all the nightmare of spending 10 minutes running "straps" round your bike you'll probably save yourself 10 minutes anyway. That's a terrible idea...whatever posessed you to come up with such a plan. Here's a bit of friendly advice:
"EVERY TIME YOU TRY TO CUT CORNERS YOU WILL ALWAYS END UP SPENDING MORE TIME AND MONEY PUTTING IT RIGHT.DO A JOB PROPERLY OR DON'T DO IT AT ALL!"

That's a shocking statement, i actually am pretty shocked at the lengths some people will attempt to go to in a vain attempt to make a very simple job even simpler, when in fact they are making life so hard for themselves!

SHAME ON YOU!
