snapped oil plug

Postby handsomejackuk » Fri Oct 05, 2007 1:57 pm

Hi,

Anyone know where i can get a new oil bolt for frame bottom ? It is a banjo bolt with a strainer fitted on top. I removed it tonight to change oil, drained all oil and put it back in and snapped it. Think I tightened it to hard. It is the one that fits on bottom of frame that has a braided hose on it. Would it be o.k. to put a standard banjo bolt in there with no stariner.

Having covered over 50,000 miles on my Baggi, I have never foound any crud on the strainer you are talking about.
Sayin that, with my luck if I run without it, an unseen peice of weld would fall into the oil tank and wreck my engine :)

Keith,

Cheers on that, think I will get to couple of hydraulic suppliers tomorrow to see if I can get the required banjo bolt for now. At least until I can source the proper part. From what I understand, Keith is BSA regal no longer trading ? as I have found theese great in the past for MZ spares.

Unfortunatly BSA regal are no longer an MZ business. As far as I understand it they are no longer in teh motorcycle buisness at all, having sold off the Norton part of the group as well :(

banjos and banjo bolt are standard hydraulic fittings. Your next-best forklift or truck hydraulics shop will have every size you can think of. They can easily press fitting onto hoses as well or make up new ones to fit.

Bill,

I'be spent the morning going around motor factors Hydraulic stockists, Motorcross Breakers, Fuel suppliers, Pirtek, Land rover stockists, But still no luck, Have phone my local MZ dealer Bob Wilding motorcycles and they say Its probably gonna take about two weeks to get the part. All i need is m16 * 1.5 Banjo bolt and we have a postal strike for the next few days. would have thought I could pick up this part anywhere off the shelf Hydraulics. Beware when changing oil. do not over tighten this banjo 'cos it will snap !!!

Any ideas Anyone.

if you are in the States, then M16x1,5 could prove to be a daunting problem.

Might be worth trying fork lift truck places and Automotive Air con shops as well.
