Baghira brake lever

I need to replace my front brake lever on my 2001 Baghira, what are my options here in the U.S? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

after about 2 weeks looking for replacements
for my saxon tour and rt 125 i found that no one in the usa has them
except maybe a montesa shop but not sure of that because my emails
were never answered

so i put one on my shopping list for the next time i order parts from

I've had good luck with aftermarket levers marked as Yamaha-compatible. The lever arm doesn't always look like the original MZ unit, but the connection and activation dimensions work out. Just take your broken one down to the Yamaha shop and match it up.

I'm interested in getting a set of these very cool, "unbreakable" and fully adjustable levers, but I'm not sure which applicatoin to get? What you do guys think?

I think with some good pictures and note taking it can be figured out which levers would work.

I'm calling my buddy at SFMoto in San Francisco to order a different part for the Baggy, and I'll ask him if he knows of any good replacement levers, or which of the AVS levers would work. He rides a Baggy every day to work, and SFMoto used to be an MZ dealer. He'll likely have an answer for us, which I'll post as soon as I talk to him (I think they may be closed on Monday, so it could be Tuesday or later)...

What part of California are you in?

That sounds great AtomicSpew, I have'nt ridden in about 3 weeks due to my lever breaking completely off during a low speed lowside . I live near Pasadena and they've been resurfacing the streets so there's gravel everywhere.

We had a similar weekend...I keep my bikes in a storage unit, and as I was rounding a corner in the access road around the back of the storage complex, I hit a patch of oil where some DICKHEAD had been either changing his oil or had a moving truck that leaked like crazy. Front tire slid out mid-turn going about 15mph and I went down hard--the bike bounced off me and forward, resulting in a broken front turn signal, broken bar-end mirror (attaches to my PowerMadd wrap-around handgaurds), and a scraped-up PowerMadd handguard. At least I didn't break the clutch lever, although it's shaved down pretty good. I also munched the rear brake toothy-thing, which just folded like an aluminum can. That thing is junk, and although the little toothy thing is only $12 bucks, I think I'll try to find an entire replacement rear brake lever. Oh yeah, I also scraped up the front fender really good and also slightly bent the handlebars. Luckily, I had just purchased some 7/8" Pro Taper bars I was going to put on my VStrom, so I think these'll go on the MZ now. I'll install new levers and such while I'm making the handlebar swap, and I'll probably just throw some stickers on the front fender to cover up the scrape marks, or I might buy a Cycra supermoto front fender if I can match the colors (mine's red).

Ah well, I was looking for a weekend project anyway. Stay tuned for the info on those levers...

Just so you don't feel alone, between 2 lowsides left & right, my bike suffered the same damage as yours. By the way where do you get the brake lever toothy-thing from?

Damn. Tony doesn't know enough about the ASV levers to know which one fits our bike. He did mention that it's likely similar to the KTM replacement, but of course ASV makes a couple different versions, depending on what KTM we're talking about. There's a great KTM dealer in my town, so I'll probably just ride the Baggy over there this weekend and compare levers side-by-side. If I (we) can figure out which ASV replacement would work, I'll post it up here...

the factory controls are made by Domino, which KTM used for many applications. ask for a lever for The mid to late 90's KTM LC4 dualsport, and you will probably have a direct replacement.

While I've got you, did you see my other post regarding CDI units allowing higher rev limits? What's your take on what the Baggy can handle? Also, what about going down a tooth to a 14 up front? I'm not using the MZ on the highway at all anymore, and don't care about lost top speed--I'm looking for stronger acceleration out of tight, super-moto tracks and tight twisty backroads, not to mention easier 2nd-gear wheelies. Bill Jurgensen feels like a mild CDI unit is OK, but seriously frowns upon the 14 tooth, as it'll "shorten the life of the layshaft bearing." Do you concur?

The cdi unit from the tdm works great,I have one on my Skorpion..it has
no rev limiter from what I understand..thats not a real issue for me though
as I rarely rev past 7k....
On the sprocket,I find Bill's comments to be just about gospel...I'd go
up a few teeth in the rear...I currently run 15/43 on the Skorp..
