backfire

Postby basser23 » Mon Dec 18, 2006 2:02 pm

Hey all,
The weather here was beautiful here in DC over the weekend, so I decided to fire up the Skorp to give it some excercise.....upon start
with choke on, it ran sorta ok,take the choke off, and have to give slight throttle to get it to run at all...backfires through carbs...not a bang, more of a puff noise ...will give large backfire through exhaust if revved and
throttled back rapidly..will only run if kept at 2k rpm....carbs?
Any guru help appreciated....yes fuel is fresh...has STA-Bil in it too..
Thank
Chip

the carb sounds lean, probably plugged idle circuit. you should remove them and thoroughly clean them.

Dave&Phlat,
Thanks for the info. The gas is fresh(less than a week),so I guess now that
its cold again,I can go outside and pull those carbs and clean away...argh..
Gotta love it...at least the weather here is not like in Seattle at the moment...

that was a good wind storm. the bad part, we had a lot of heavy rains prior, november was the wetest month ever on record, over 15.5 inches, so alot of trees came down and knocked out power. over 1 million people without power for at least 24 hours. the power just came back on at my work last night. gas stations are out of gas. the citys largest milk plant has been dark for 5 days, so there is no milk at the store. good times.....

My Sport has always (since buying 2nd-hand about 6,000km ago) behaved like that - I thought it was normal, especially the backfires when you rev and back off quickly. I get backfires even when hot sometimes.
