Mastif Revcounter

Hi,
I am looking for a revcounter for my `02 baghira and have come across one on e-bay that is for a mastif. So if possible would someone who owns a mastif please give me the dimensions of their revcounter to ensure that it will fit on my bike before i place a bid.

TBH the Mastiff rev counter would look pretty out of place on a Baggi. I don't have it infront of me, but it's around 80 - 90mm in diameter and about the same depth without the chrome shroud on it. With the chrome shroud it's about and inch or so deeper.
If it was me I'd look for something smaller (digi one maybe?) or do what I did and replace the standard clocks with an Acewell digital display.

The final thing I'd say is check the wiring diagrams too - does the Baggi have a take off for the rev-counter? I think it originates from the CDI unit on the left side of the frame on the Mastiff.

Sorry for being negative, but I don't want you to spend your money on something you may grow to hate!

Let me know if you want the actual dimensions - I can probably dig out my Mastiff revcounter tomorrow.

If you look at some Husqvarna revcounter/speedometer setups, you will see that there is a super-neat answer to this. Look at:

You can see that if you move your speedo assembly to the left a little, the tacho fitds on the right side. There is a hole for the ignition switch where it is fitted to the Husqvarna; you can use this for a digital clock (use a cheap digital watch with the strap cut off and the body rounded off with a grinder!).

Much better than the ridiculous big Mastiff item.

As for the CDI unit; I think that it is the same as for SZR660 Yamaha, Skorpion and Mastiff, so it should have a power output for a tachometer.

Thanks for the info regarding the mastif revcounter, i thought it maybe too big and look out of place but until i got some sizes i could not be sure.
I like the look of the Husky clocks but for the same money that they sell for secondhand i could buy a set of new digital clocks with a built in tacho, that is why i am looking for a slightly cheaper option. I thought about buying just a shift light but until i find out a what RPM the stock rev limiter is set i cannot order one.

Stock limiter is set to 7000 rpm as far as I know. If you do buy a digital setup. you will have a magnet sender on the front wheel and forks , zeroing mileage all the time - each time you change the battery etc, and the tacho scale is not very clear on them. Also, you will need the proper bracket for it - another 70 sterling unless you make your bracket which will need to protect the digital unit from vibration etc. As you can see, I think they are crap!

Thanks for the info regarding the digital dash, i was thinking along the same lines regarding the speedo sensor and other associated wiring problems that i may have encountered during the install. My thoughts are now being directed towards a shift light mounted next to the speedo, there is a company in England that supply shift lights that comes with a preset value and seem to be very sensibly priced at £22. I could buy one that lights up at 6500rpm but only if they say that the unit is compatable with a single cylinder engine.

I've had no problems with mine at all.
Easy to fit even if you've only got the slightest mechanical ability. Speed sensor fits to fork leg, magnet - drilled and tapped hole in disc carrier to screw it to. Run the cable up the brake pipe with a few zip ties. No problem. I can't see vibration being too much of an issue - these things are designed to be fitted to bikes.
Tacho scale - yes, it's a but unusual on some of them running up the side and along the top of the display, but you get used to it. you can also display the tacho digits at the same time as the speed on mine at the pressof a button if you wish. That's gotta be better than having no tacho.
As far as losing your milage - if you buy the right unit, it will retain the odometer reading even if you remove the thing from the bike and store it in a cupboard under your bed.


As you can see, I don't think they are crap - although I would say that as I have actually fitted one to my bike...

The choice is yours - I'm not saying this is going to work for you, but the choice is getter wider as digi dash units become more popular - there is more than one type of unit available these days.

I would agree with Fil on the dig set-ups and will be getting one for myself once I have got the performance related bits and pieces I want. It will probably be a a trailtech unit when I do as I think they look great.

Check out http://www.trailtech.co.uk . They are specifically designed for bikes / quads so cant see any problems with vibration etc.

Thanks for the replies regarding the digital dash and it is good to get an opinion from other members.I had a look at the site listed in the last post and i am inpressed with the product , BUT and there is a but, by the time i purchased the unit and the bracket that contains the idiot lights i was looking at spending around 150 quid, bearing in mind this bike is a second bike to my ZRX (all be it more fun and much quicker around town), and just recently my Saab Aero decided it would be fun to have a leaking head gasket, so trying to justify spending that much cash on something that is at the moment way, way down the priority list is just not on and no matter how many pairs of shoes/jeans Mrs Kendo was allowed to buy i cannot see the digi dash being an option for a very long time.

So i am still going to try and source an electronic 0 - 7000 rev counter with a white face (to match the speedo) which is around 50mm diameter and is compatible with a single cylinder engine - so not much to ask then. I think i may be looking for a very long time.
