Posting question for someone

Postby phlat65 » Mon Jan 22, 2007 11:48 pm

these are for a prospective new member, he has not received his conformation yet, has been a week or so, so here are a few questions we can help him with

1. Do all UK spec bikes have a KMH speedo  i would like a MPH without fitting a reduction gearbox to the speedo cable (the manual it shows a MPH speedo but only up to `99 mine is a 2002 with KMH speedo)

2. Fork oil - being 110kg there is a fair amount of front end dive when i apply some front brake will thicker fork oil help, if so which grade of oil 10-15-20? or are heavier springs readily available in the UK?

3. Tachometer - Has anyone fitted an individual revcounter to their Baghira ? if so where was it situated/ what kind and where was it purchased from (uk only)?

4. Sealsavers, gaiters or the MZ frork protectors from the accessory list?

5. Stock filter & airbox or airbox removed and pod filters with induction kit, if available?

6. Front brake -VFR (750/800?) upgrade any further info or pictures on this mod, as the original thread on this topic goes cold?

Thanks again,
                 Kendo..

Hope this helps...
Go to Forum, select 660, go to 2nd page, the 6th post down titled;
Baghira Documentation for download, 3rd one available for download has to do with forks.
After reading your post I went to the fork manual download and read what seems to be the type of information that your looking for, or at the very least a starting point.
A good read none the less.

Robert

If you have the cash and are in the UK I would recomend the services of Endurotech to rebuild the forks to suit your weight / needs. If you are on the non-adjustable forks would also say upgrade to the fully adjustable to give yourself a litle room for personalisation ....available secondhand for under £100. The proprietor Chris is very approachable and can be contacted via http://www.endurotech.co.uk . I am sure there are other equally capable suspension techs out there but I have had work done by this fella and it was spot on.
My bike has a KPH marked speedo in prominance with the MPH equivalent marked in smaller lettering further in towards the centre. It has never caused me any problems. Odometer also reads in kilometers.
Brakes do need upgrading and I hope you can get a cheap fix with the VFR caliper and one off bracket. Alernatives are out there for instance Harrison Billet http://www.billet.co.uk do a direct fitment 6 pot for £250ish (mastiff) which uses standard master etc. Otherwise any decent engineerring shop should be able to make a bracket to suit an alternative caliper.
Good luck.

1.. Mine is in kph, as is the odometer. I saw somewhere that someone had photocopied the speedo face, and changed it to mph. Cannot find the post anywhere though.

2. I am 110 kg (maybe more!) and mine dives a little more than i like. But an USD conversion is on the card now. Otherwise I would have gone to MCTechnics in Stowmarket, Suffolk. They rebuilt my XR650 suspenion froint and rear tailored to my weight using Ohlins internals. It made a huge difference, and I could cover ground quicker after that than i would have done with any engine tune. As standard, the MZ is not too bad.

3. I beleive that Husqvana has a combined speedo & tacho on a couple of models that looks identical to the MZ speedo. Again, I am sure I saw it posted on here.

4. MZ accessory fork protectors have worked well for me-I've ridden through two winters-no problems. Do exactly what they say they will.

5. Sorry can offer no help here. I'm changing to FCR flatslides, so know i will have hours of fun sorting out the filtration and fuelling!

6. Now this is my fault!! I had a VFR caliper, and I promised to photocopy the bracket so that it could be copied by anyone that wanted to do the same conversion. Although I never fitted it to my bike (I now have a 6 pot Beringer setup)I saw it in action on the previous owners bike, and it out braked me by a long way. Only I couldn't photocopy it before I sold and delivered it to Bigzed. Perhaps he can help?

And welcome, Kendo....when you get here....and where in the UK are you?
