You'd have to measure anyway. The spacer's easy; figuring out the caliper mount is the more difficult part. If it can't be a flat piece of metal, then it has to be machined, to fit around things or provide mounting bosses.

Well....yes, but.... "don't go there". It's your brakes. Not worth it. More trouble than it's worth. You could probably find someone to fabricate one if you tried, asked around and so on. Then you see if it's not more cost effective just to buy something ready made. It could depend on how cheaply you got a caliper or disc and caliper. You're fortunate to have ebay. There're plenty of calipers that would be suitable. Ready made, that would involve finding out which Motomaster bracket - or one of those products could be adapted to fit. ....I think the finding out is the problem, usually - these vendors aren't into...I mean there are so many situations where if you could email them and get them to measure something for you ... there's no way to find out unless you can get someone on a forum to do it for you.

Keith, I see now what you're getting at with a 'composite' caliper bracket. The boss / mounting points could be made like spacers, to use with a bracket made from a flat piece of alloy. The stock bracket is straighforward, no elaborate shape.

I've got some photos of various Nissin caliper conversions done on BMW GS - I could send them to you if you like. They could be useful for ideas.

Cheers they could be useful. One of the guys I ride with has done this on his old XR600 to use a better caliper and bigger disc. As for calipers I have a set of 4 poys off of a Yamaha TDM850 in my shed
Tried them to see if they would fit, but they hit the wheel spokes (: so the disc will have to be spaced out.

As for the 45 deg angle I think you know first hand how difficult it is to make that angle meet. I actuall cut my Y pipe further down where it is first starting to cone (called the "first diversionary cone" in exhaust speek). The "double cone" method I used was a God send and it was easy to do (see previous post). The internal area of the exhaust can must large on these big singles to reap any benefits through scavenging.

Dwight, any more close-ups you can get around to would be welcome. (If you got a phone camera, it's a lot easier. Only way I do it.)

How's your indicator doing at that distance from the can outlet? (It seems to be more-or-less in line with the indicator but about 5 inches behind it?)

Size of can for big single... big pulses, far apart compared to a high-revving four...
It would seem that it wouldn't matter much if the pipe is straight through (like almost all of them are) but it would still be affected by the size of the perforations (I think they're pretty much all made from standard perforated exhaust tubing) but the longer the length of perforated pipe, the quicker the wave would be absorbed - and I suppose the amount of space/diameter around it and the density of the packing would also affect it.

I was just thinking that exhaust looks good, it must be from one of the later model R1 with the underseat exhausts [?], and I should call the Yamaha dealer and tell them I want to buy one when someone replaces theirs with an aftermarket one.

Then, thinking what dmon/Dwight said about the can volume, and that this is just one of 2 cans used on a 4 cylinder engine, and not knowing what sort of arangement they use for the 4 into 2, ...maybe not.

CM, how does that bike go, do you know? My guess is that exhaust probably does not work as good as some others.

BSM offers two choices: Vampire (Loud) and Future (Not so loud, and
my choice). The Future sounds like a four cycle exhaust should; deep-
er tone and similar to other four stroke dirt bikes.

Yo! Still here and kickin'. Holidaze are super busy for me. I do have quite a few things for sale off my Panther...
* Two front fenders, one in good shape (slight lifting around the front lip area (common))
the other was modified by removing the front "triangle section" and a portion of the rear fender, gives it a clean through air shot to the rads "Supermoto'ish" needs to be cleaned up and painted (pics on request... natch'
* Front instrument "birdcage" with the left and right protective bars. Good structrual condition, just faded from the sun. I would powder coat them and your set.
* a front side panel new in the package, not sure if its left or right? Too lazy to check (black)
*Front headlight fairing (Black Panther), good and clean
* 2 "Bug Eye" headlights OEM on the Mastiff, never mounted/used still in original box all metal wunderbar from MZ, I was going to use them as Aux lighting but way to heavy (all metal) these are awesome Baja lights...but alas not for me.
* New Speedo unit, used about 1 week, I stripped all that crap off and made a track bike from my Panther,
any intrest or pics wanted give me a reply.

For both of those pieces, $50 + shipping sounds fair.
*Its a right side panel (front, covers the tank). Its still in the factory bubble wrap and has NEVER seen the light of day. I bought it when my bike went over and never installed it. Black in color, its does NOT come with the cover that you remove to access the radiator cap. Nor the small triangle cover that covers the rollover bar socket molded in the tank.
*The front headlight fairing has been used on my bike from day one. I wax/polish it real often and is fine and in great condition. I would not hesitate to install it on a new bike. Let me know.
