Mz etz 251 oil change

Hi, have just started to do some work on my MZ Etz 251.
I went to change the oil and removed the Gear selector detent spring will ball bearing by mistake ?
I re-fitted it then removed to make sure the bearing was still on the spring which it was.
So I re-fitted it again.
I started the bike and the gears seemed ok and the neutral light went of.
Does anyone know if this should be ok as I don't want to have to strip the engine.
Thanks dave

It'll be fine - as you've found out.

There's a lot of rubbish spoken about the doom and destruction caused by accidentally removing the dedent ball and spring. If you've ever split a five speed box, you'll see what damage removing it can cause. i.e. none!

Nope, change gear as much as you like, it'll make no difference. It's one of the great MZ myths that TERRIBLE THINGS will happen if you take the dedent plunger out accidentally.

All the bearing on a spring does is make neutral a bit less difficult to find. Gear indexing happens at the end of the selector drum by a cam and roller mechanism.

I wonder why they made it a removable item. To replace the spring at specific intervals?

Sometimes I take it out as part of the oil change. Alot of gunk can collect in this region.

It's removable to make assembling the 'box easier. And, yes, it's a good idea to remove it occasionally and wash the crud out of the area.
